Japan Times podcast Deep Dive talks about Black Lives Matter in Japan

I regulary read the English-language the Japan Times. I'm not going to claim their journalism is world-class but they seem to be more progressive and diverse in their coverage of news in Japan. Recently, I've been going to the site to get information on Black Lives Matter activities in Japan.

I discovered that JT has a podcast called Deep Dive with the copy "Looking beneath the suface of Japan". Their most recent episode is titled 'Why Japan needs Black Lives Matter' and talks about racism and police conduct in Japan, observations by participants of the BLM demonstrations in Osaka and Tokyo, and particularly interesting, the experiences of a Black American student getting repeatedly stopped and harassed by the Japanese police.

The podcast does a good job of going over BLM in Japan and racism and police brutality against foreigners in general. And the personal recounting by the black guy in Japan mirrors a lot of black people's experiences in the US (thankfully, minus the getting shot dead).

Check it out here.
